September Light: A Journal from Workshop in Wantagh, NY
At Workshop LI, every season brings new stories of connection, creativity, and community. September Light is a reflective journal entry inspired by a quiet afternoon at Wantagh State Park and an unexpected encounter that reminded us of the timeless bonds that tie people together.
From city living to small-town roots—our family never expected to raise our kids in Wantagh, NY, the very town where my husband and I grew up. After years of searching in Westchester and Rockville Centre, life brought us back to my grandmother’s home in Wantagh just before the world shifted in 2020. What started as a temporary move became the foundation for our family’s future. Between neighborhood walks, Thursday Night Live events, and the warm support of the Wantagh community, we’ve built new friendships, created lasting memories, and discovered the joy of raising our children in the same town that raised us.
At kindergarten supply drop-off, a simple moment on the playground became something more. As our kids played, a few of us mothers found ourselves sitting together—sharing stories, laughter, and the quiet reminder of how much we need each other. This journal reflects on the importance of mom time, friendship, and the village that carries us through the seasons of motherhood.
